According to our culture, women lose their coolness and beauty as they age.
But we’re dispelling that notion here at Dressing Your Truth! Go, older ladies!
As a 62-year-old lady, I must admit that I have never felt more gorgeous.
I adore what I see when I look in the mirror. My hairdo perfectly captures my personality and energy type! I want to inspire you to regain your independence from social expectations and keep expressing yourself as you get older, regardless of your hairstyle—from a pixie cut to white hair!
Today, let’s discuss hair colors! You still have the freedom to experiment, add playful styling, think outside the box, and switch up your hair color if you’d like. Just because you’re over 60 doesn’t mean you have to have “old lady hair”! We have a hair color suggestion that’s ideal for you, regardless of your hair type—long, short, curly, straight, bangs, or even thinning or experiencing hair loss.
This list of hair colors for older ladies has been compiled by me to help you look your best as you get older.
Silver Fox is one of the top six hair colors for women over 60.
Women Over 60 with Silver Fox Hair Color
It is true that the most common hair color options for women over 60 are platinum, blond, silver, and ashy. And for good reason!
You have the option to accept your gray hair rather than coloring it to cover it up. There are far too many women with dark brown hair that is poorly done and doesn’t appear nice or natural.
If a significant portion of your hair is already graying, your 60s may be the ideal age to attempt this silver hair color.
There is a way to get gray hair without looking old, despite your concerns that it will just make you look decrepit.

Advice for All Four Energy Types on How to Go Gray
- Platinum

Going with the flow and not fighting the greying process can be achieved with platinum hair color! Your roots won’t matter because platinum already looks a lot like light gray or white hair. Additionally, any stray greys that do make an appearance will just add gloss and dimension.
Additionally, because platinum is currently quite fashionable, your stylist or colorist will know just how to make this transition seamless and fashionable.
In my Dressing Your Truth community, I usually suggest platinum for Type 4 ladies. Your type of beauty will look its best in this chilly, ice hue.
- Jane Fonda’s Ash Blonde Women’s Ash Blonde Hair Over 60: 2
Because it looks great on gray hair, this is still another fantastic choice.
For further dimension, your stylist could use balayage, lowlights, or highlights throughout. In this manner, your gray hair will appear to be a natural part of your hairdo when it begins to grow in!
Ash-blonde hair color is also a terrific option because it complements your skin tone and looks like your natural hair color as you age.
According to my Dressing Your Truth system, Type 1 and Type 2 women will benefit most from this hair color choice.
You should use more “warm” and less “ash” for Type 1 ladies. Imagine delicate strands of hair with highlights that are bright and sunny.
You can go “ashy” for Type 2 women because it’s a cool tone. The finest results will come from blended highlights that don’t stick out too much.
- Vibrant Red

The ultimate show-stoppers are redheads! This dark red hair color will look fantastic on you if your hair is naturally black or brown.
There is no denying that this dark hair color will need extra maintenance. However, the payoff will be worthwhile!
The best advice for this hair color is to use cosmetics to draw attention to your eyes. This hue is so striking that you don’t want your eyes to become overwhelmed by it. To draw attention to your eyes, apply mascara, eyeliner, and darker hues.
Although any type of woman might carry off a red hairdo, Type 3 ladies look amazing in this dark shade. Colors that are warm, rich, and substantial are ideal for type 3 ladies. You’ll feel amazing if you add some edge and angles!
How to pick the ideal red hair color for your type may be on your mind. Since not everyone will benefit from all reds, this is a really good question!

- Gray Hair for Women Over 60 with a Color Accent or Highlight Gray with Neon Color
Since you’re a distinctive and fascinating woman, why not express your individuality with a pop of color?
In accordance with your energy type, I provide the following advice to help you incorporate the ideal hair color accents:
Type 1: Use sunkissed or warm caramel hues that brighten your face and are arranged haphazardly. Type 2: Your gray hair will look great with softer, more subdued undertones. Type 3: You can use bolder, deeper hues to be more daring, edgy, and dynamic. Type 4: Make a statement by thinking boldly and dramatically. It will look fantastic with stark contrast.

This is similar to silver fox gray in that it’s all about accepting your age and your natural color instead of attempting to hide it!
Going platinum or blonde is not the same as going all white. For women who wish to stand out, this striking color is perfect.
I suggest this option for Type 1 or Type 4 women in my Dressing Your Truth system. This type of white can be held by both types of women, but it won’t work as well for the rich and dynamic Type 3 woman or the soft and subtle Type 2 woman.
The top hairstyles for women over 60 are right there! Instead of feeling embarrassed by their age, these six hair colors encourage women to embrace it. My latest piece about hairstyles that make you look younger will give you more ideas on how to feel and look fantastic as you become older.
